Mount Jiuhua is the great vow ground of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, who vowed not to achieve Buddhahood until all hells are emptied, and is known for its many incorruptible monastic bodies. The Hall of the Sacred Body (Roushen Hall) houses the earthly remains of the Golden Ksitigarbha and is the most incense-bustling spot on the mountain, central to prayers for transcending the souls of the deceased, resolving karmic grievances, and protecting the health of living family members. Huacheng Temple, the founding ancestral temple, is the center of pilgrimage activities. Prayers for household peace and the tranquility of the departed are believed to receive special blessings here. It is the core site for beliefs surrounding filial piety and salvation for beings in the afterlife.
